Culture & Connection: Rasht, Iran
Hi,
I want to invite you to our next online Culture & Connection Club taking place on June 28th, 2026 4:00pm - 5:30pm PST
It is hard to believe that we are in our 6th month of culinary adventures with this club. We have gone from Finland, to Vietnam, Ukraine, India, and more. We are now landing in Rasht, Iran with Leila Nabizadeh. Where we will be making Kuku Sabzi (herb frittata) and Mirzaghasemi - Eggplant & tomato stew/dip
🌹A little about Leila and these dishes
This month, I am grateful to welcome Leila Nabizadeh to our table for a culinary journey to northern Iran. Leila, was one of our first In My Kitchen Hosts, and has become a good friend.
Leila grew up in Rasht, a city in Iran's lush Gilan Province near the Caspian Sea. Often referred to as the culinary capital of Iran, Rasht is renowned for its vibrant food culture, abundance of fresh ingredients, and deep-rooted culinary traditions. Rasht was recognized by UNESCO as a Creative City of Gastronomy, a reflection of the important role food plays in the region's cultural identity.
During our upcoming Culture & Connection Club gathering, Leila will guide us in preparing two beloved Persian dishes: Kuku Sabzi, a fragrant herb-filled frittata that celebrates the abundance of fresh greens, and Mirzaghasemi, a smoky eggplant dish that originated in the Gilan region.
This month’s culinary experience feels especially meaningful. While many of us have followed news stories about the devastating protests and war in Iran, our culinary experience offers an opportunity to connect with the people, culture, and traditions that exist beyond the headlines. Food has a remarkable ability to build bridges of understanding and remind us of our shared humanity. Through Leila's stories and recipes, we'll have the chance to experience a richer, more personal perspective of a region whose culture has been shaped by centuries of hospitality, resilience, and community.

Getting to the Heart (and Stomach) of Rasht, Iran with Leila Nabizadeh
This was the very first podcast interview I did, and one of my favourite. I encourage you to listen especially if you join us on June 28th.

Our Culture & Connection Club culinary adventure in July is with Siham who is in Morocco. We will be making chicken Tagine!
